VESTIGES
transmission through objects
Are objects capable of establishing relations between past
and present?
Can they be used as instruments for the transmission of memory?
We invite you to visit Vestigios
(Vestiges), a site that displays images and information on
objects which relatives and friends of victims – or other
individuals who were politically involved during the last
military dictatorship – kept from those years.
Vestigios is a Memoria Abierta initiative
designed to increase the level of information and social conscienceness
of State terrorism.
This proposal seeks to explore the ability
of objects to establish relations between past and present,
that they may serve as vehicles for the transmission of memory
and, at the same time, foster debate and reflection.
We believe that it opens a door on a different
dimension of the days of State terrorism, a personal perspective
generally absent from historical accounts and which contributes
to the construction of collective memory.
In Vestigios we present
a selection of the objects reviewed during the first stage
of this project. Should you possess an object you would like
to be included in our collection, please complete the contact
form
and we will get in touch with you shortly.
This project has the support of the Prince
Claus Fund for Culture and Development.
