September 20th of 2004 marked 20 years since the
presentation of the report of the National Commission
on the Disappearance of Persons (CONADEP) to the
then president of the Republic, Dr. Raúl
Alfonsín. To commemorate the date, Memoria
Abierta produced the graphic exhibit “XX
Years of Nunca Más”.
The photographic tour addressed events such as
the inauguration of Dr. Alfonsín, the creation
of the CONADEP five days later, the presentation
of the report, the publication of Nunca Más
and the March of Resistance.
The CONADEP was created in 1983 with the mission
of investigating the dimension and forms of illegal
repression perpetrated by the Armed Forces during
the military dictatorship (1976-1983). The research
was based on the denouncements of family members
of the disappeared and the testimonies of survivors.
The report was published for the first time in
November of 1984 with the title “Nunca Más”.
Presently, it continues to be one of the principal
sources of documentation on what occurred in those
years.
The exhibit was carried out with the support of
Royal Embassy of the Netherlands and the German
Embassy. It was displayed at the Palais de Glace
(Buenos Aires, November of 2004), in the Pablo
Sacchero room of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture
of the province of Mendoza (December of 2004),
in the Museum of Fine Arts of the city of Posadas
(Misiones, April of 2005), in the Museum of Memory
in Rosario (Santa Fe, May and June of 2005), in
the Association for Memory and Life in the ex-clandestine
detention center Mansión Seré, Morón
(Buenos Aires Province, July and August of 2005),
and in the Legislature of the province of Santa
Fe in September of 2005.
